WHAT IS TRAXION?

Traxion is a “venture catalyst” that provides support to early stage companies in Golden, Jefferson County and the surrounding metro area.  Traxion works closely with the Entrepreneurship Center and leadership team at the Colorado School of Mines to support alumni, faculty and students, and provide other founders with access to the world class expertise in engineering, mining and computer sciences provided by the CSM alumni and faculty.

Support is provided to early stage companies through these key foundational elements:

  • Education & Business Plan Guidance – like most startup programs, we built our initial curriculum using the Lean Canvas model. Over time, and in collaboration with the School of Mines, we have refined that approach to focus initially on Understanding the Problem. Many founders want to focus on their solution, but we encourage them to instead spend sufficient time on understanding the problem – who has the problem, how it impacts their life or job, and who might be willing to pay for a solution (the user with the problem isn’t necessarily who pays for the solution). For companies that move forward, guidance is provided on customer acquisition, developing a financial model and determining the appropriate capital strategy.

  • Advisors – a network of industry experts, successful executives and experienced entrepreneurs has been cultivated, providing founders with accessible advisors who are willing to share insight on industry trends and guidance on the process of starting and growing a company. You can and will make plenty of mistakes, but our advisors will share theirs to help you avoid them.

  • Capital – Traxion works with founders to determine capital needs and the optimal process for raising it. For qualified companies, Traxion has partnered with Rockies Venture Club to establish a Jefferson County chapter which holds regular investor forums that provide founders with the chance to present their investment opportunity.

The Traxion Philosophy

Traxion is not just about developing great organizations, it’s about developing great people. Our mission is to harness the collective power of our community by bringing local governments, corporations, educational institutions, and individuals together to provide a solid foundation for early-stage companies to establish themselves, gain traction and thrive. By doing this, we empower individuals with great ideas and commitment to take fuller advantage of the opportunities that life presents and to realize more of their unique human potential. While Traxion certainly works very hard to build great companies, we ultimately define a successful outcome as an individual that is happier and more productive directly as a result of their ongoing association with our program.
